Who we are

Viamar Transit is a family company born in Naples back in 1987 thanks to the entrepreneurial skills and the foresight of its founder and President Carlo Viglietti, born in 1961, as logistic support in Italy to an important French Forwarder. From 1997 Viamar Transit becomes a reality and, in 2001, the Head Office is moved to Genoa, while Naples continues to operate like local unit for the marine traffics from the Southern Italy.
After his untimely death in 2017, his wife Maria Teresa Amoroso and children, Chiara and Michel Viglietti took the helm, continuing the work he had begun with renewed energy.

Since then, Viamar Transit has never stopped evolving, aiming to extend its Core Business; the present is in fact represented by a dynamic reality, based in the heart of Genoa, but with other offices both in Italy and abroad, composed of highly qualified personnel who work daily to customize the Customer Service.

  • Covid

The year 2020 is globally marked by the Covid-19 pandemic.

31 December 2019: Report on the first cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology in the city of Wuhan, China.
20 January 2020: in a historic press conference of the Chinese National Health Commission, it is confirmed that the new coronavirus is transmitted from man to man.

Viamar Transit is therefore faced with a completely new and unexpected scenario: first the closure of almost all the factories that produce goods to be exported (according to Ateco codes) and then the closure of the activities of Customers at destination where the lockdown is started successively then Italy.

    2020

  • 2021

    Second year of pandemic

The second year of the Covid-19 pandemic is characterized by many variants of the virus and the introduction of the Green-pass to access their workplace.
The road haulage sector, linked to the success of our work, is hard hit because most drivers do not have a Green-pass.
Moreover, the known Maritime Transport until then is completely upset: The Shipping Companies impose increases, the availability of empty container is always minor so like the spaces on the ships.
From January 2020 one container on four has lost the previewed boarding.

  • The end of Covid and the beginning of the conflict Russia - Ukraine

2022 begins with enthusiasm, always the answer that distinguishes the end of any dark period.
On 24 February, Ukraine was invaded by Russia, shaking the hearts of Europe and the whole world, bringing back a wind of war and undermining the global recovery after the very difficult period linked to the pandemic.
Viamar Transit, despite this, still lives a record year recording a strong increase in work.

  • 2023

    Once again

October 7, 2023, marks the beginning of another conflict, following the Hamas attack on Israel.
On October 8, Israel declared a state of war with the aim of completely eliminating Hamas.
The involvement of the Palestinian civilian population has triggered a full-blown humanitarian crisis.
The involvement of the Palestinian civilian population has triggered a full-blown humanitarian crisis.
Furthermore, the Red Sea crisis began on October 19: after Houthi rebels from Yemen—aligning themselves with Hamas and the Iran-led “Axis of Resistance”—announced their intention to attack all ships bound for Israel regardless of nationality, various shipowners took the precautionary step of suspending the Gulf of Aden–Suez Canal route. This forced vessels to take a 6,000-kilometer detour around the Cape of Good Hope, resulting in significant cost increases and further undermining global trade.

  • Important changes

In 2024 there were some important changes : our Spanish branch became “VIAMAR TRANSIT HISPANICA.”

The transition to this new independent company saw the appointment of Chiara Viglietti as CEO, ensuring family continuity as always. While remaining part of the Viamar group, it will be independently managed and projected to significantly increase its traffic.

    2024

  • 2025

Geopolitical instability went from a temporary emergency to a structural feature of global trade

2025 was the year in which geopolitical instability went from a temporary emergency to a structural feature of global trade. Maritime transport maps were redrawn by conflicts, transforming the 2023 crisis into a permanent state of emergency. With the Suez Canal still too risky, the Cape of Good Hope route became the preferred choice for connections between Asia and Europe. This added 10–14 days of navigation and increased fuel costs.
After peaking in 2024, spot freight rates are in a correction phase. Forecasts indicate potential drops of up to 25% between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 due to excess capacity. Despite the drop, prices remain on average higher than pre-crisis levels, which are precisely linked to longer routes. However, Italian exports are bucking the positive trend with an expected growth of 3.5%.

  • A year of profound and structural transformation for global shipping

2026 is confirming a year of profound and structural transformation for global shipping. Having overcome the logic of pure efficiency, the market today requires maximum strategic resilience and operational flexibility to cope with an unprecedented set of geopolitical dynamics.

-Geopolitical Tensions and the Reorganization of the Routes-
Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf: The geopolitical crisis that erupted in late February has severely slowed transit in this crucial area. Intermittent lockdowns and security uncertainties have pushed tanker freight and war insurance costs to historic peaks, with rental costs for supertankers jumping as much as $500,000 a day.
Red Sea and Suez Canal: Hopes for a gradual return to normalcy in early 2026 have faded as conflicts in the Middle East escalate. The circumnavigation of Africa via the Cape of Good Hope has now become a structural choice, lengthening transit times by 10-14 days and absorbing approximately 2.5 million TEUs of the global fleet.
