Martinique, Fort-de-France

Martinique is an island in the Antilles, at the same time a French overseas region and department (capital Fort-de-France). It is in the heart of the Caribbean archipelago and is part of the Lesser Antilles or Windward Islands. Its coasts are bathed to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by the Caribbean Sea.

It was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502, during his fourth journey to the New World.
Martinique boasts many beaches: those of the southern part of the island are white sand, unlike those of the north which are of volcanic origin and therefore with black or gray sand.
